The Liberal Convert

My name is Stacey.

I grew up conservative and the majority of people I interact with on a regular basis are still conservative. But relatively recently, through my own initiative, research and musings, I became liberal.

I’m also deeply engaged with, and concerned about, journalism. I think journalism is important — for citizenship, for democratic function, for the future of our society. Like many others, I also think it’s in trouble.

I once heard a very accomplished journalist ask the question, “What’s the point of reporting on solutions or problems if the people we see as the problem aren’t even reading it?”

This is where I come in.

I understand the “problem people” and what makes them resistant to journalists’ stories.

I see what journalists, many of them liberals, are doing to push away those who they see as the problem.
